All Sports Founder Presented Award
On Saturday, May 22, 2010, the Rowe Taylor, Jr. Foundation held their second annual Hero Award Dinner and Fundraiser. Among those recognized as recipients were: Lauren Dungy, Hero Award; Doretha Edgecomb, Hero Award; Tyrone Keys, Trailblazer Award; and Deacon Charlie Ball, the Vanguard Lifetime Achievement Award.
Tyrone Keys Jr. Earns Summa Cum Laude
Former Gaither High School student, Tyrone Keys, Jr., has graduated from North Carolina State University Summa Cum Laude with a 3.8 GPA in Industrial And Engineering Systems, and is preparing to continue in the master program at N.C. State then later get his Ph.D.

TAMPA -- On Tuesday (4/27) Labrawn Saffold was one of four people selected as winner of the Buc Quarterback Award. Each person receiving the award received $2,000 to be donated to the charity of their choice. Labrawn was nominated by his former teacher at King High School for returning back to King and helping with the F.C.A.T. and the after school QUEST PROGRAM. One of the winners were ALEX Bar-b-Que for his bike program. The event took place at One Buc Place and each person invited four people to the ceremony.
A teacher helped inspire former NFL player
Through standout days as a defensive end at Mississippi State and an NFL career that included winning the Super Bowl with the Bears, Tyrone Keys never forgot his sixth-grade teacher. Mary Hagan never drifted far from Keys' thoughts, even after he played for the Bucs and Chargers, retired from the league in 1988 and launched a successful nonprofit in Tampa. "She just radiated love and compassion," Keys said.
One Person Can Make a Difference
The story almost sounded too good to be true: A young, white teacher moves in 1970 from East Baton Rouge Parish to Jackson, Miss., when her husband gets a new job. She lands a job at a previously all-black school in the first year of full-blown integration of Jackson’s public schools. Except that the racial makeup of students at her new school is basically the same because white students are leaving the public schools.
