CCBA Presents $10K to ASCS
TAMPA BAY, FL – August 1, 2013 – Carrollwood Community Bar Association (CCBA) recently presented a $10,000 check to Tyrone Keys, founder of All Sports Community Service (ASCS) Foundation. The two organizations have benefited from a twelve year partnership. The CCBA helps raise funds through an annual golf tournament which are then used to give grants to teachers and youth coaches and to help support programs that guide students towards achieving higher education goals through compassion and character.
This year, ASCS and CCBA alum, Gilbert Perez, returned to give grants in honor of his former teacher and youth coach. The winner of the CCBA 2013 Marcia Inman Memorial Teachers Award was given to Lucy Menendez, a kindergarten teacher at Alexander Elementary. The winner of the Jose Marrero Memorial Coaches Award was given to Coach Samuel J. Brown, the golf coach at Franklin Middle Magnet School.
With the additional funds, ASCS also will be able to continue to provide sports and education camps for kids who would not otherwise be able to participate. Other activities that will benefit are a 5-Day College Bus Tour with high school student athletes, the Urban Teaching Academy, and the Junior Bucs.
When Keys was awarded the check at the recent CCBA luncheon, he said, “I am forever grateful in your belief of ASCS. As you have witnessed over the last 12 years, our participants come back to give back which is the core belief of our organization. Thank you for helping us awake the social and spiritual consciousness of our students. This is evident by their willingness to come back, and give back.” He continued, “This Fall, we are partnering with the Junior Bucs and will have the unique opportunity to teach character and compassion through sports and education and make an impact on our community. Because of CCBA, we now have homegrown mentors.”
